Everything about Bespoke glassware from DutZ

Bespoke glassware

DutZ is one of the largest artisan glassmaking brands in the UK, Europe and even globally. We work with several workshops in Eastern Europe that still manufacture artisan mouthblown glass. Certainly, there are still quite a few solitary glassmakers who will make incredibly beautiful artistic pieces, but these are often not suitable for as vessels or cost-effective. Most of these are limited edition decorative pieces.  DutZ however is able to manufacture bespoke mouthblown glass in very large quantities. And we often do this for demanding clients. Clients who care about colour, quality, and design.

Lets' look a bit deeper into bespoke glassware.

It is complicated

Firstly, let us be honest…. It is complicated. Manufacturing artisan glass is not an easy process. Glass is not an easy material to work with, and coloured glass is not easy to produce. But we can help.

We often get asked if we can make a mouthblown glass candle holder of perfume diffuser in a particular corporate colour. However, making coloured glass is not like printing colour on paper with a HEX code. Coloured glass is a careful mixing of minerals. Sometimes these are off the shelf=f and often these get mixed by the glassblowers. Often it is hard to tell how a colour looks once it is out of the oven. DutZ uses in many of its workshop the renowned glass colour mixtures from Reichenbach https://www.farbglas.de. This prestigious glass colouring company is the standard in the industry, and we are proud to use their products

Making the mould

In regard to the shape of bespoke designs it is important to know that for every design a mould needs to be made that will be used for the blowing process. Mostly this mould is made from crafted wood, or when used for a popular design the mould is created from metal. Glassblowing is done with intense heat, the glass is melted in furnaces and then blown inside the mould to get the right shape. But understandably, this mould wears down due to the heat. So, after several vases, a new mould needs to be created. An elaborate process. Metal moulds certainly last longer, but also wear out and are very expensive to create. We would always suggest trying to create a variation on designs that are currently in our collection. This will significantly reduce the price of a bespoke mouthblown glass design, as we can reuse the mould for you.

And lastly…. patience

Patience…. Lost of patience. Glassmaking is an artisan process. There is no button to push and your vase or candle glass is finished. Every vessel will be individually handmade. Glassblowing is an elaborate and slow process and because there are not many glass workshops operational these are very busy studios. So, to create your vessel, this may take 1-3months. There is often a long waiting list for bespoke glass vases, candleholder, or diffusers.

The grand finale

After all this, you will have a gorgeous handcrafted glass vessel suitable for you to label with your business identity, or etch with your corporate logo. DutZ creates its glass in a particular way. Our handmade glass is thick, heavy, and luxurious. It stands out from other manufacturers, and we are very proud of that. So you will be proud to tell your customers that your vessel was created by DutZ.
